When discussing development in Oke-Ogun, we must be fair, objective and honest enough to acknowledge the contributions of different administrations. Political differences should not prevent us from recognising genuine achievements, just as political loyalty should not stop us from asking questions about accountability.
Governor Seyi Makinde’s administration has undertaken several significant road infrastructure projects across Oke-Ogun and other parts of Oyo State. These projects deserve attention because good roads are essential to economic growth, agricultural development, trade, education and access to healthcare.
The following are among the road projects associated with Governor Makinde’s administration that deserve closer examination:
1. Moniya–Iseyin Road: A major route connecting Oke-Ogun with Ibadan and improving access to the state capital.
2. Iseyin–Fapote–Ogbomoso Road: An important road project intended to improve connectivity between Oke-Ogun and Ogbomoso.
3. Oyo–Iseyin Road: A strategic route that strengthens transportation links between Oyo and Iseyin.
4. Iseyin–Saki Road: An important corridor connecting communities within Oke-Ogun.
5. Saki–Ogboro–Igboho Road: A road project intended to improve movement and economic connections across parts of Oke-Ogun.
6. Kishi–Igboho Road: A significant road reconstruction project with the potential to improve transportation and commercial activities in the area.
7. Oloko–Oyo Junction–Ikere Road: A route intended to improve access to surrounding communities and the Okere Dam area.
8. Okaka–Otu–Kap Film Village Road: A project aimed at improving access to communities and destinations in Oke-Ogun.
9. Saki dual carriageway: A road project associated with efforts to improve traffic flow and urban transportation in Saki.
10. OYSROMA road rehabilitation projects: Various roads in Oke-Ogun communities have also featured in road maintenance and rehabilitation efforts. These include roads in Irawo-Ile, Igboho, Itan, Igbojaye, Okeho, Kisi, Igbeti, Iwere-Ile and Oje-Owode.
These projects should be assessed individually to establish their completion status, quality and impact on the people. Nevertheless, they illustrate the importance of sustained investment in the road network across Oke-Ogun.
While road infrastructure remains essential, development goes beyond the construction and rehabilitation of roads. Education, healthcare, water supply, agriculture, employment opportunities and youth empowerment are equally important to the progress of our communities.
The expansion of access to higher education in Iseyin, alongside the development of educational opportunities in Oyo State, is another area deserving attention. Such initiatives must be assessed in terms of their actual facilities, institutional status and benefits to students and surrounding communities.
We must also recognise that every administration has a responsibility to build on existing achievements, complete worthwhile inherited projects and initiate new ones that address the needs of the people.
Our people deserve good roads, quality education, accessible healthcare, improved agricultural infrastructure and opportunities for our young people to thrive.
Rather than allowing partisan politics to divide us, let us examine public projects objectively, demand accountability and give credit where it is due. At the same time, we must continue to demand more from our leaders because the development of Oke-Ogun should never be a partisan issue.
Governor Seyi Makinde’s record should be assessed on verifiable achievements, the quality of completed projects and the tangible benefits delivered to our communities. Equally, any comparison with previous administrations should be based on evidence rather than political sentiments.
As supporters of measurable development, we believe continuity, accountability and purposeful leadership are important to the future of our communities.
Our political choices should be guided
credible records, sound policies and the capacity to deliver meaningful development. We must also ensure that every political endorsement reflects the candidates’ actual party affiliations, nominations and electoral status.
Oke-Ogun deserves more, and the journey towards sustainable development must continue. Our ultimate goal should be a better future for our children, our educated youths, our farmers, our traders and every resident of our communities. All these ca. further be achieved through omituntun 3.0. We here
call on all sons and daughters of Oke-Ogun to join us in this development focused mission.
Let us promote development, demand accountability and work together to build a better Oke-Ogun and a better Nigeria.
Signed,
Hon. Badmos Adesola
