A yet-to-be-identified Vehicle Inspection Officer (VIO) has reportedly been crushed to death
a truck along Hospital Road, opposite Mega Primary School, Akure, the Ondo State capital.
The tragic incident reportedly occurred when the officer attempted to intercept a truck travelling along the road.
According to a video shared on Friday
Akure-based radio station Crest FM, residents were heard shouting as the incident unfolded, while people gathered at the scene following the fatal accident.
Eyewitness accounts indicated that the officer attempted to stop the truck, which was reportedly already in the fast lane, but was unable to prevent the incident.
The officer was said to have become trapped beneath the trailer after being struck
the truck, leaving residents and passers-
distressed.
The footage also showed some of the officer’s colleagues appearing visibly shaken as they witnessed the incident. The atmosphere at the scene was tense, with residents shouting and gathering around the accident site.
However, the full circumstances surrounding the incident, including the events that led to the officer’s attempt to stop the truck, had not been established as of the time of filing this report.
