The Allied People’s Movement (APM) has accused the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led Federal Government of allegedly diverting public funds through an oil pipeline surveillance contractor, Government Ekpemupolo, popularly known as Tompolo, to finance political activities ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The allegation was made on Tuesday

the National Publicity Secretary of APM, Abubakar Yusuf, who questioned the continued engagement of Tantita Security Services Limited in pipeline surveillance despite allegations of pipeline vandalism and illegal oil bunkering reportedly raised

some stakeholders.

Yusuf also claimed that efforts

some Niger Delta stakeholders, including members of the Ijaw and Itsekiri communities, to persuade the Federal Government to revoke the contract had yielded no positive results.

He further alleged that some Niger Delta agitators had accused Tompolo of encouraging illegal oil bunkering and pipeline vandalism under the guise of securing oil pipelines. These claims, however, remain allegations and would require independent verification.

Reacting to the reported distribution of 50 buses across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to APC supporters under the PBAT Door-to-Door campaign initiative, the APM spokesperson described the move as questionable, calling for transparency regarding the source of funding.

According to him, the resources reportedly deployed for political mobilisation could have been channelled towards addressing pressing national challenges, including poor road infrastructure, delayed payments to local contractors and the completion of public projects.

Yusuf challenged Tompolo to clarify the source of his wealth and the funding behind the reported political mobilisation, particularly in view of his past involvement in militancy in the Niger Delta.

He also criticised what he described as the alleged misuse of public resources for political purposes, arguing that Nigerians deserved greater transparency and accountability from the government.

The APM spokesperson expressed confidence that the party’s presidential candidate, Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, would secure victory in the 2027 general elections.

He maintained that the APM would campaign on accountability, responsible governance and the need to redirect public resources towards infrastructure, economic development and the welfare of ordinary Nigerians.

Yusuf further advised Nigerians not to allow political gifts to influence their electoral decisions, urging voters to scrutinise the government’s record and demand accountability before casting their ballots in the forthcoming elections.

He argued that any distribution of political gifts involving public resources should be subjected to proper scrutiny to establish the source of funding and ensure compliance with relevant electoral and financial regulations.
