Environmental advocate, Omo Oba Sola Kolawole Onikoyi, has been conferred with the Honourary Fellowship of the Nigerian Environmental Society (NES) in recognition of his contributions to environmental advocacy and sustainability.
Onikoyi disclosed this in a statement following the presentation of the fellowship award at a gala held last week at the Randekhi Hotel Main Hall, GRA, Benin City, Edo State.

The ceremony took place on the sidelines of the Society’s 35th National Conference and 36th Annual General Meeting, which brought together distinguished Nigerians and professionals in the environmental sector to discuss emerging challenges and sustainable solutions.
The conference, themed “Reimagining Environmental Solutions: Digital Innovations, Artificial Intelligence and Inclusive Financing in Nigeria,” focused on the need to harness digital technology, artificial intelligence and inclusive financing to address environmental challenges and promote sustainability in Nigeria.
Reacting to the recognition, Onikoyi described the conference theme as timely and strategic, noting that environmental sustainability has become a critical global concern requiring innovative approaches and collective action.
He stressed the importance of strengthening conversations around climate change and developing practical solutions to mitigate its effects, particularly among environmental professionals working on the frontlines of environmental challenges.
According to him, Nigerian environmentalists must continue to champion policies, innovations and initiatives that protect the environment and ensure a sustainable future for generations to come.
“We must leave this Earth a better place for generations unborn,” he emphasised.
Onikoyi also dedicated the fellowship award to those who have supported his environmental advocacy over the years, particularly his teachers, mentors, staff members and family.
He expressed appreciation for their encouragement and contributions to his environmental advocacy journey, describing their support as invaluable to his commitment to promoting environmental protection and sustainability.
The Honourary Fellowship further highlights the importance of environmental advocacy and the need for sustained collaboration among professionals, policymakers and other stakeholders to address climate change, encourage ecosystem restoration and promote a circular economy.
As Nigeria continues to confront environmental challenges, stakeholders have emphasised the need for innovative, inclusive and sustainable approaches that will protect natural resources and improve the quality of life of present and future generations.

Onikoyi reaffirmed his commitment to environmental advocacy with the message: “For Climate, For Our Future.”
