In Yorubaland, a popular saying captures the essence of good character: “Iwa l’ewa Omoluabi” — character is the beauty of a person of honour.
As political activities gradually gather momentum ahead of the 2027 general elections, the need for mature, peaceful and people-oriented leadership in Oyo South Senatorial District has become increasingly important.
For the Founder of the Omoluabi Political Movement (OPM), Ibarapa Zone, Omoluabi Ojewola Olawale, one political figure whose leadership style reflects these values is the Oyo South Senatorial Candidate of the Allied Peoples’ Movement (APM), Rt. Hon. Adedeji Dhikrullahi Olajide, popularly known as Odidiomo and celebrated
his supporters as Odidi Omoluabi.
According to the movement, his political journey has been characterised
public service, accessibility, respect for others and a commitment to peaceful political engagement.
Odidiomo Condemns Alleged Attack on APC Candidate
One of the recent incidents cited
the movement as an example of Odidiomo’s political disposition was his reaction to reports of an alleged attack on the campaign convoy of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Senatorial Candidate for Oyo South, Hon. Aderemi Oseni, at Agbaje Market in Ibadan North-West.
Rather than remain silent or exploit the incident for political advantage, Odidiomo reportedly condemned the alleged attack through his Special Adviser on Media and Public Affairs, Tolu Mustapha.
He described political violence as unacceptable and contrary to democratic principles, urging the Nigeria Police Force, the Department of State Services (DSS) and other relevant security agencies to conduct a thorough, impartial and transparent investigation.
He also stressed the importance of ensuring that political disagreements do not degenerate into violence, intimidation or threats to life.
The movement described his position as a demonstration of political maturity, arguing that democracy thrives when candidates can campaign freely and compete on the strength of their ideas, achievements and programmes.
For OPM, Ibarapa Zone, the incident underscores the importance of prioritising peace and democratic values over partisan interests.
A Tested Legislator with Legislative Experience
Beyond his position on peaceful political engagement, the movement highlighted Odidiomo’s legislative experience as another factor informing its support for his senatorial ambition.
As a two-term member of the House of Representatives representing Ibadan North-West/South-West Federal Constituency, he served in the National Assembly, where, according to his supporters, he pursued constituency development and empowerment initiatives.
The movement maintains that his legislative background offers him valuable experience that could be brought to bear on representation at the Senate.
It also argues that his experience in public office could help him better understand the legislative process, constituency engagement and the responsibilities associated with representing the people at the federal level.
Promoting Peace and Political Unity
The movement further described Odidiomo as a politician who advocates peaceful competition rather than intimidation or violence.
According to OPM, Ibarapa Zone, his response to the reported attack on a political opponent reflects the importance of separating political disagreements from personal hostility.
The group maintained that elections should provide an opportunity for candidates to present their records, policy proposals and development plans to voters without fear or intimidation.
It added that Oyo South needs political leaders who can encourage unity, respect opposing views and place the collective interests of the people above personal ambition.
Accessibility and People-Oriented Leadership
The movement also pointed to Odidiomo’s engagement with constituents as part of the qualities that have earned him support among his followers.
It described him as a politician whose relationship with the people extends beyond election periods, citing his engagement with different segments of society, including traders, artisans, farmers, students and traditional institutions.
According to the group, effective representation requires more than occupying public office; it also demands regular interaction with constituents, responsiveness to their concerns and a willingness to support initiatives that improve their livelihoods.
The movement believes these qualities are essential for anyone seeking to represent the diverse interests of Oyo South at the National Assembly.
Odidi Alubarika: A Symbol of Hope for Supporters
Among his supporters, Odidiomo is also known as Odidi Alubarika, a name associated with blessings, goodwill and positive expectations.
The movement attributed this perception to his political engagement and reported empowerment initiatives across the district.
It maintained that the expectations surrounding his senatorial ambition reflect the desire of many supporters for continued grassroots engagement, opportunities for young people and policies that can improve the welfare of constituents.
However, the group stressed that the ultimate measure of leadership should remain the ability to translate promises into tangible benefits for the people.
Oyo South 2027: The Choice Before the People
As political conversations ahead of the 2027 elections continue, the movement said Oyo South needs a senator who can represent the interests of the entire district, regardless of political affiliation.
It argued that the ability to defend democratic principles, respect opponents and promote peaceful coexistence should be important considerations in assessing candidates.
The group maintained that the future of the district depends on leadership that prioritises character over intimidation, experience over empty promises and development over divisive politics.
For OPM, Ibarapa Zone, Odidiomo’s call for an investigation into the alleged attack on his political opponent represents the kind of political conduct it believes should be encouraged.
OPM Ibarapa Zone Declares Support for Odidiomo
Speaking on behalf of the movement, its Founder, Omoluabi Ojewola Olawale, said OPM, Ibarapa Zone, with a membership it puts at more than 5,000 across Oyo South, commends Odidiomo for what it described as an exemplary demonstration of statesmanship.
The movement also expressed support for his call for a peaceful, issue-based political campaign ahead of the 2027 general elections.
It urged security agencies to investigate reports of political violence impartially and ensure adequate protection for all political actors.
The group emphasised that political competition should be driven
ideas, programmes and the records of candidates rather than violence or intimidation.
The Message: Character, Peace and Progress
As the race for the Oyo South Senatorial District seat approaches, the movement is calling on voters to consider the character, experience, accessibility and development agenda of the candidates seeking their mandate.
For OPM, Ibarapa Zone, the message is clear: the district’s future should be built on democratic values, peaceful participation and purposeful leadership.
The movement believes that sustainable progress will come through the ballot box, constructive political engagement and a commitment to the welfare of the people.
It is on this basis that the group is advocating support for the APM senatorial candidate under the banner:
Vote Character. Vote Peace. Vote Progress.
Vote APM. Vote Odidi Omoluabi. Vote Odidi Alubarika.
Rt. Hon. Adedeji Dhikrullahi Olajide (Odidiomo) for Senate, Oyo South 2027.
