The Oyo State Government has expressed relief and joy over the release of Oyo State corps members who were abducted in Imo State, describing their freedom as a welcome development.
The state government congratulated the governments of Imo and Oyo States, as well as the Federal Government, on the successful release of the abducted corps members.
In a statement issued
the Commissioner for Information, Prince Dotun Oyelade, the Oyo State Government said the Federal Government, which has the greatest constitutional responsibility and capacity to tackle insecurity, must intensify efforts to bring kidnapping and banditry under control.
According to him, the continued occurrence of kidnappings and banditry across the country remains worrisome despite repeated assurances from the Presidency on the security of citizens.
“It is worrisome that large pockets of kidnappings and banditry still dominate the Nigerian landscape, the constant robust assurances from the Presidency notwithstanding,” Oyelade said.
He further disclosed that, at the last count, no fewer than 200 Nigerians were still being held in various forests after being abducted, stressing that the situation raises serious concerns about the effectiveness of the nation’s security response.
The Commissioner urged the Federal Government to be more proactive and live up to its responsibility of protecting the lives and property of Nigerians across the country.

Prince Dotun Oyelade
