Manchester City have reportedly been found guilty of 114 out of 115 charges brought against the club
the Premier League over alleged financial breaches, according to The Athletic.
The verdict was delivered
an independent commission following a lengthy investigation into the club’s finances covering the period between 2009 and 2018. One of the 115 charges was reportedly dismissed.
The Premier League initiated the case in February 2023 after a four-year investigation into alleged violations of its financial regulations.
The charges span nine seasons and include allegations concerning the provision of accurate financial information and the club’s financial dealings.
Manchester City have consistently denied any wrongdoing, maintaining that they did not breach the Premier League’s regulations.
In response to the development, a club spokesperson said the Premier League process remained ongoing, with significant elements yet to be completed and subject to strict confidentiality.
The club is expected to appeal the commission’s decision, according to The Athletic.
The case is regarded as one of the most extensive disciplinary proceedings in Premier League history. However, the guilty verdict does not immediately determine the sanctions Manchester City could face.
Any punishment is expected to be considered separately and could also be affected
the outcome of a potential appeal.
The next stage of the process will therefore focus on determining the consequences of the commission’s findings as Manchester City continues to contest the allegations.
