The Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has responded to recent criticisms from the campaign organisation of Senator Sharafadeen Alli over the state’s streetlight project and the Lekan Salami Stadium, Adamasingba.

In a statement signed

the Governor’s Special Adviser on Media, Dr Sulaimon Olanrewaju, the administration defended its approach to both projects, arguing that the criticisms were politically motivated and did not reflect the government’s record of infrastructure delivery.

On the streetlights, Olanrewaju said the use of generators was necessitated

challenges with regular electricity supply, while pointing to the state government’s investment in alternative energy infrastructure. He said the government’s 5MW solar plant is being upgraded to 12MW as part of efforts to develop more sustainable power solutions.

The statement also defended the renovation of the Lekan Salami Stadium, saying the facility has hosted major football activities. The issue has, however, remained a subject of debate after Shooting Stars had to play its 2026/27 CAF Confederation Cup home fixture in Abeokuta, with reports citing venue approval and pitch-related concerns.

Olanrewaju said the temporary challenges surrounding the stadium should be viewed within the context of ongoing efforts to improve the facility and meet international standards.

He also responded to Senator Alli’s criticism of Governor Makinde’s professional credentials, highlighting the governor’s engineering background and his Fellowship of the Nigerian Society of Engineers.

The statement concluded that the Makinde administration would remain focused on infrastructure, energy and other development initiatives despite criticism from political opponents.
